A high-growth technology company is seeking a strategic and hands-on legal leader to serve as Head of Legal, Commercial. This role will lead a fast-moving, collaborative legal function that partners closely with sales, marketing, operations, and finance to support all go-to-market initiatives. The position is highly visible and plays a critical role in enabling revenue growth while managing legal risk and ensuring compliance.
This individual will be responsible for designing and scaling the legal framework that supports customer, reseller, vendor, and nondisclosure agreements, with a strong emphasis on complex commercial transactions involving software, cloud, and channel relationships. The ideal candidate is solutions-oriented, business-minded, and comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and scale the commercial legal function to support a growing, high-performing sales organization
- Develop and implement legal strategies that align with business objectives and drive revenue growth
- Oversee the drafting, negotiation, execution, and management of complex commercial agreements, including customer, reseller, vendor, and confidentiality agreements
- Partner closely with sales and business development teams to balance favorable deal terms with appropriate risk mitigation
- Implement and scale legal technology and AI-enabled tools to increase efficiency and impact
- Provide legal guidance across a broad range of areas, including contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and risk management
- Stay current on relevant industry regulations and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance
- Foster a collaborative, solution-driven legal culture that values both strong judgment and emotional intelligence
- Mentor, develop, and manage a high-performing legal team, including distributed and international team members
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor and active membership in the California Bar in good standing
- 10+ years of relevant experience negotiating and managing large, complex enterprise commercial agreements, including software and cloud transactions
- Strong background in privacy and data protection laws, including HIPAA, FINRA, and GDPR
- Working knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local laws; familiarity with UK and EU legal frameworks is a plus
- Experience leading and managing legal teams, including both domestic and international members
- Ability to operate independently in a highly dynamic, fast-paced, and time-sensitive environment
- Strong negotiation skills with a track record of building effective, trusted relationships across the business
